On October 18, Gallaudet held a healing and renaming ceremony at Building 103, formerly known as Dawes House. From now on, it will be known as Circle of Signers. The ceremony, led by Turtle Island Hand Talk, a Native American Deaf group, drew hundreds of people, and was very moving and emotional.
The "We, Native Deaf People, Are Still Here!" exhibition opened the same day in the National Deaf Life Museum. It will be open for two years.
The Regional Early Acquisition of Language (REAL) project, a collaboration between the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center and the Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind, launched a new Bilingual Stories Bookshelf App to support early language acquisition for deaf and hard of hearing children and their families. More information is available on our website.
Dr. Danielle Previ of the Gallaudet Psychology Clinic was the keynote presenter at the first-ever National Autism in Deaf Education Conference, held October 17-19 at the American School for the Deaf in West Hartford, Connecticut. Dr. Previ’s presentation was titled “Deaf on the Spectrum.” Congratulations, Dr. Previ!
